CEFALY Pregnancy Registry FAQ
What is the CEFALY Pregnancy Registry?
The CEFALY Pregnancy Registry will collect information about the use of therapies, including medical devices such as external trigeminal nerve stimulation (CEFALY) among pregnant women with migraine. Participation involves filling out online questionnaires at various points during pregnancy.
Who will the CEFALY Pregnancy Registry help?
Women often struggle to manage migraine symptoms during pregnancy. They feel like they don’t have a lot of options, and they don’t have enough information about which treatments are safe for their unborn baby. The CEFALY Pregnancy Registry intends to help pregnant women with migraine by providing more information on the safety and effectiveness of neuromodulation — specifically eTNS migraine therapy — during pregnancy.
Who is eligible to participate in the CEFALY Pregnancy Registry?
To participate in the CEFALY Pregnancy Registry, you must:
- Be pregnant
- Be between 18 and 44 years old (at enrollment)
- Have had headaches or migraine prior to pregnancy that continued into pregnancy, OR have headaches or migraine that began while pregnant
What is CEFALY?
A non-invasive, FDA-cleared medical device that’s worn on the forehead, CEFALY targets the trigeminal nerve to relieve migraine pain and prevent future attacks. CEFALY is indicated to be used for:
- The acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in patients 18 years of age or older.
- The preventative treatment of migraine in patients 18 years of age or older
Do not use CEFALY if you:
- Have metallic or electronic devices implanted in the head
- Are suffering from pain of unknown origin or
- Have a cardiac pacemaker or an implanted or wearable defibrillator.
Is CEFALY safe to use during pregnancy?
Many women have used CEFALY for migraine relief during pregnancy with no known serious adverse effects. In multiple clinical studies, treatment with CEFALY has been shown to have no serious adverse effects, and all minor side effects were fully reversible. However, the safety and efficacy of CEFALY has not been evaluated in pregnant women. Ask a doctor before using CEFALY if you are pregnant or may become pregnant.
Do I have to use CEFALY or another neuromodulation device to participate in the registry?
No. You do not have to use CEFALY or any other neuromodulation migraine treatment to be a part of the registry.
What does participation in the registry involve?
Participating requires completing a series of online questionnaires at six specific points during and after pregnancy: <14 weeks pregnant, 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimesters, early postpartum, and late postpartum. Participation does not require any additional doctor’s visits or any change to your migraine treatment plan during pregnancy.
Will I be compensated for participating in the pregnancy registry?
Yes. Eligible participants will be compensated for completing all required parts of the registry surveys.
