Patient Information

Chronic pain is the third largest health problem in the United States. Estimates place its economic demands on society as high as 90 billion dollars annually in medication, health care and lost wages. Approximately 40% of all chronic pain syndromes are in the head and neck region, many of them the result of an inadequate diagnosis after an accident.

A victim can emerge from an accident with barely a scratch and still suffer from headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, ear and eye pain, and other debilitating ailments. Studies show that millions of people suffer with symptoms long after their accidents. Continuing debilitating head pain resulting from an accident or other source that has not been fully addressed due to incomplete diagnosis and incomplete treatment, can interfere with sleeping, eating, and the very act of living.

The Center for Headaches and Facial Pain understands the need for a results-oriented approach to this problem and has developed a comprehensive program under the direction of Dr. Ira Klemons, an internationally recognized expert in this field.

Specifically, we treat patients with symptoms such as headaches, pain in the face or eyes, dizziness, earaches, pressure or ringing sounds in the ears, clicking noises, or pain when opening or closing the mouth, pain when eating, and difficulty when swallowing. We encourage early referral. Our thorough patient assessment at earlier stages can be expected to result in even better treatment

During the first visit, a lengthy, thorough diagnostic evaluation is used to assess whether the patient’s current condition will benefit from our program. This evaluation includes a detailed patient history review, radiographs, sonogram,

Throughout treatment you will see Dr. Klemons and his associates, who will oversee your treatment program at our facility.

A comprehensive report which details the results of our exam, the diagnosis or rule-out diagnoses and therapeutic intervention is provided when necessary. If treatment here is not appropriate, an alternative plan of action will be offered. We try very hard to coordinate our treatment with our patients’ various specialists so that they can feel secure in the knowledge that their treating doctors are communicating with one another.

After completing treatment, over 90% of our patients report that related pain is “gone” or “almost gone.”* As a result, previously used medications are no longer necessary and patients typically increase their daily activities. Prior to treatment many of our patients have suffered on a daily basis for as long as 30 or more years.

Our rehabilitation program may include:

  • Custom Fitted Orthopedic Appliances
  • Physical Medicine Therapy
  • Trigger Point Treatment
  • Joint Mobilization procedures
  • Special exercises
  • TENS Training
  • Radiofrequency Thermoneurolysis
  • Discharge Planning

*Based on a review of the discharge records of approximately 3,000 patients.
